This year should be an interesting and fun year in the library. Grades 1st to 3rd come to the library at a scheduled time and grades 4th and 5th come in during their reading block time to check out books and take AR tests. Children have the opportunity to learn by different means; but reading will still be a big part of your child’s life.
The privilege of checking out books comes with a responsibility.
- 1st grade checks out one book and it stays in the classroom with the teacher who brings the class in once a week.
- Second grade is allowed to checkout 2 books
- 3rd is allowed 3 books
- 4th and 5th are allowed 2 books and one must be a chapter book.
We train our students in the proper care of books. Books are not to be passed on to others because it is their responsibility should the book be lost or damaged. Lost books and damaged books must be replaced. The cost, will be the price of the book, which can range from $5 – $20 .
Writing or coloring in a book is not acceptable and if damage is severe student must pay the price of the book. If money is tight then a book can be replaced with another brought by the student but it must be a hardcover and up to date.
Students are taught to examine the books before they leave the library and notify the librarian if there is any damage to the book. The librarian will initial the damaged area in the book and the child will not be held responsible.
There are no fines for late books, only lost and damaged books. Books must be returned on time. After 30 days a fine will be assessed and student will be given a notice and will not be able to checkout until book is returned.
We are looking forward to a great school year.
Please with with your child at least 15 minutes everyday or have them read to you.
