Hip Hip Hooray, Join NEHS Today
Julian C. Gallardo Elementary is one of a few elementary Schools in San Antonio to have a chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society. To be eligible for membership consideration, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 85. Additionally, candidates must meet high standards of responsibility, service, and leadership.
At Gallardo Elementary, we hold the NEHS students to the highest standards. Each of our members have a willingness to serve those in need. The students are committed to volunteering their time and abilities to create a better tomorrow for us all. The students are committed to the idea of volunteering their time and abilities and have an obligation for doing what is right. NEHS members commit to do what is right “even when no one is watching.” Not only do NEHS members commit to being stellar citizens at school, our members also demonstrate exceptional qualities at home and in the community. One of our 5th grade students stated she enjoyed being a member of NEHS because, “She is able to be a role model and support the younger students.”
As members of NEHS, students engage in a number of chapter service projects. Gallardo’s chapter has served the campus and community in a variety of ways over the past 4 years and continues to do so during the current school year. Our National Elementary Honor Society has volunteered at the San Antonio Food Bank where members work together to sort and/or pack produce, non-perishable foods, and household items, preparing them for distribution. Students have also volunteered their time at a local nursing facility. They are Ambassadors on our campus and have welcomed visitors during school functions. NEHS has also held many food drives on campus to collect the most needed food items for the local Southside food bank. If there is an event on campus happening you will be sure to find an NEHS member nearby to lend a helping hand.
We look forward to all of the events that the National Elementary Honor Society members have lined up for the next school year.
