Texas Farm Bureau and Southwest Dairy Farmers Visit Freedom

April 19, 2017 by webmaster

Representatives from the Texas Farm Bureau and Southwest Dairy Farmers came to Freedom to visit with the students, and to teach them a few things about farming and agriculture.

Emilee Trlica, a representative and area coordinator with the Texas Farm Bureau, spoke to students about agriculture, and about how it plays a part in practically every part of our lives, from what we eat to what we wear!  She had students make very cool “living necklaces”, which were tiny zip lock bags, with a wet cotton ball and a seed inside, hanging on a string. Students placed them around their necks and wore them for the rest of the day.  Students who are patient will end up with a plant to care for in a few days!  Students loved their living necklaces! Thank you Mrs. Trlica!

Steve Braneke from Southwest Dairy Farmers is a former AG teacher who taught students  for 28 years  before working with the Southwest Dairy Farmers, so he knows a thing or two about agriculture and livestock!  He wanted to teach our students about the dairy cattle industry, so he brought along his assistant, Dottie, who happens to be a dairy cow!  Mr. Braneke taught the students about Dottie, and spoke to them about what it takes to care for dairy cattle and how we benefit from the dairy industry.    He answered questions from students, and even showed them how cows are milked.  The students really enjoyed their visit with Mr. Braneke and Dottie.

Thank you to our visitors for making learning so much fun!

The Magik Theatre Comes to Freedom

April 18, 2017 by webmaster

Freedom Pre-K, Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grade students were treated to a Magik Theatre performance of “The Three Little Pigs” live, right here, in our very own gym! It was a wonderful production, and the  students loved it.

He’ll huff, and he’ll puff, and he’ll blow you away. This is one serious wolf, looking for one serious meal, and three little pigs sound delicious! All he has to do is get into their little houses:  one made of straw, one made of sticks, and one made of bricks…

The Magik Theatre offers these community “Magik Theatre On the Road” productions to schools to bring  great stories to children who may not be able to get to see them on stage.

THANK YOU, MAGIK THEATRE!

Today, Mrs. Rodriguez was presented with a “Our Librarian Rocks!” cake from the Freedom faculty and staff.  Mrs. Rodriguez is very cool, and not only that, she is our campus technology guru, which makes her really indispensable!  We LOVE our librarian!
