Freedom Elementary participated in the first Texas Lesson Study (TXLS) program originating in 2018 by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The purpose of the program is to train teachers in creating lessons using the TXLS process. This process would enhance instruction and increase scores in all content areas. Ms. Blanca Chapa, Mrs. Ingrid Palacios and Mr. Julio Perez teachers who decided to create a lesson for reading instruction focusing on text features. The final product was a culmination of teaching to the students and the recording of said lesson. Their hard work paid off, as the final product was published and uploaded by TEA onto the Gateway website. A news crew from WOAI 4 and Univision visited Mrs. Avalos’ classroom to interview her and highlight their accomplishments. The lesson is one of the first Spanish Dual Language Lessons published on the TEA website. Every teacher in the state of Texas will be able to see the lesson.
