No Shots, No School // Sin Disparos, Sin Escuela

https://www.dshs.texas.gov/immunize/school/admittance-faq.aspx
Families must check their students' immunizations to be prepared to return to school for the 2022-23 school year. Students starting Pre-K, moving up to Kinder, or moving up to 7th grade will require boosters before they start school. Information on vaccine requirements are posted below. If you have a question about what shots your child may need, please contact your school nurse.

Southside ISD will enforce its “No Shots, No School” policy. Texas law requires all public school children to have current immunizations in order to attend class.

Are immunization exemptions available? / ¿Hay exenciones de inmunización disponibles? Expand
Instructions for requesting an official exemption affidavit can be found at www.dshs.texas.gov. The original exemption affidavit must be completed, notarized and submitted to the school prior to enrollment or before the current exemption on file at the school expires.

Conscientious Exemptions will be valid for two years from the date it is notarized. Students with conscientious exemptions may be excluded from school in times of emergency or epidemics declared by the commissioner of public health.

Medical exemptions must be signed by a M.D. or D.O. duly registered and licensed to practice in the United States. In the statement it must state that the vaccine required is medically contraindicated or poses a significant risk to the well being of the child or any member of his/her household. Unless it is written in the statement that a lifelong condition exists, the exemption statement is valid for only one year from the date signed by the M.D. or D.O., not the date the form is submitted to school.

Does a child have a 30-day provisional enrollment in school while awaiting the vaccine exemption form?

No. Admission to a school is not allowed until records are produced showing that (1) the child has been immunized in accordance with the rules; (2) the child has an exemption affidavit from immunization requirements on file with the school in accordance with the rules; or (3) the child is entitled to provisional enrollment.
