What is Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) ?
School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a prevention model. It is based on the premise that all students can benefit from well implemented, evidence-based practices for improving student behavior. School-wide PBIS provides a comprehensive framework that can be used by any school to design their own system of behavioral supports for all students. It also provides informed decision making, based upon data analysis that guides the process of assessing student needs and providing additional levels of behavioral support to students in need. How has Southside ISD implemented PBIS in our district?
Southside ISD has implemented the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program in our district. Southside ISD is dedicated to being a place of mutual respect. It is an expectation that all members of the Southside Cardinal community – be they Students, Faculty/Staff, Administrators or Families – will follow the Southside ISD Code, and treat everyone as they would wish to be treated themselves.
What does PBIS look like on a school campus?
Schools will identify and post expectations in specific settings used to teach students the appropriate behavior. Southside ISD Expectations: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible. Staff are able to state and use the expectations and interpret them uniformly. Students are taught the expectations at the beginning of the year and then reviewed throughout the school year.
