Southside ISD has partnered with Ruiz School Supplies, a nonprofit organization founded by San Antonio native Alex Ruiz. His mission is to make classroom supplies accessible to teachers year-round, not just at the beginning of the school year. Thanks to the support of sponsors and donors, these supplies are provided at no cost to the district.
Leading up to spring break, Ruiz visited four Southside ISD campuses to introduce his organization to teachers and help them create accounts so they could begin submitting supply requests.
While teachers may not be able to order large quantities of a single item at once due to supply availability, they can request one to two classroom sets of essential supplies free of charge. Available items range from much-needed pencils, tissues, and crayons, with more high-demand items expected to be added as the organization continues to grow.
This week, Ruiz completed his first round of deliveries to teachers at Menchaca ECC, Gallardo Elementary School, Pearce Elementary School, and Matthey Middle School. Teachers are encouraged to continue placing orders for essential classroom items and to support Ruiz School Supplies in its mission to assist public schools.
“I remember being in school and seeing my teachers buy their own supplies for the classroom. I created this nonprofit for that reason,” Ruiz shared during one of the classroom deliveries at Matthey Middle School.
Both students and teachers were excited to receive the extra supplies, especially as the school year winds down and classroom materials begin to run low.
