Southside ISD Kicks Off School Year with a Talent-Packed Convocation
San Antonio, TX – Nearly one thousand Southside ISD employees from across all campuses and departments came together for a high-energy celebration marking the start of the new school year. This year’s convocation, themed “Southside’s Got Talent: Rock the STAAR,” was a show-stopping event that had something for everyone—from live performances and surprise skits to celebrity impersonations and inspiring speeches.
Hosted by “Terry Crews” (played by Cliff Herring), the event kept the crowd entertained from start to finish. The convocation featured live musical acts, prize drawings, and motivational messages from Superintendent Mr. Rolando Ramirez and Board President Mr. Jesse Hernandez.
Adding to the fun were our “celebrity” judges: Simon Cowell (Brandon Robinson), Mel B (Marybel Flores), Howie Mandel (Dr. Ernesto Salinas), and Sofía Vergara (Janie Ramirez), who faced the tough task of selecting winners from a lineup of talented performers.
After much deliberation, the winners were announced:
-
🥉 3rd Place: Heritage Elementary – $150
-
🥈 2nd Place: Gallardo Elementary – $300
-
🥇 1st Place: Southside High School – $500
Southside High School’s team, The Smashing Cardinals, stole the show with a thrilling performance featuring live instruments and vocals that brought the house down.
With such an enthusiastic start to the year, there’s no doubt that Southside ISD is ready to Rock the STAAR and make 2025 a year to remember!
