Southside ISD kicked off the spring semester with its inaugural mid-year convocation, bringing together all faculty and staff for an exciting start to the second half of the school year. This year’s theme, “SNL: Soaring to New Levels,” set the stage for an energizing event. The convocation opened with a spirited performance by the Southside High School Cheerleaders, setting a high-energy tone for the day.
The fun continued with a lighthearted skit featuring members from each campus and department, who played beloved SNL characters in a lively game of Family Feud hosted by none other than Superintendent Rolando “Harvey” Ramirez. The skit brought plenty of laughs, creating a fun, team-building atmosphere to kickstart the semester.
Superintendent Ramirez then addressed the group, welcoming everyone back and inspiring them to finish the year strong. To wrap up the event, he introduced the inspiring film A Million Miles Away, which tells the incredible true story of Mexican-American astronaut José M. Hernández. The movie served as a powerful reminder of perseverance, ambition, and the importance of believing in the impossible—motivation for both personal and professional success as the staff heads into the second half of the year. The convocation was a perfect way to bring the Southside community together and set a positive tone for the remainder of the school year.
