Southside ISD Receives Grant to Enhance School Safety with New Body Cameras

Southside Independent School District (ISD) has been awarded a significant grant from the Texas Political Subdivisions (TPS) to improve campus safety. The grant will provide the district with funds to purchase 12 body cameras, which will be used by school police officers to assist in documenting incidents and ensuring a safer environment for students, staff, and visitors.

The initiative is part of a broader TPS effort to give back to its member districts, recognizing that school safety is a shared concern. Studies have shown that when individuals are aware they are being recorded, they are less likely to engage in disruptive or dangerous behavior. By equipping Southside ISD staff with these cameras, the district hopes to deter potential incidents and provide valuable evidence when necessary.

TPS, which serves a collaborative network of public schools, operates on the principle that all members share in both the challenges and the successes. By providing this grant, TPS is taking an active role in promoting the safety of students and staff, ensuring that everyone can benefit from a secure learning environment.

“We are grateful to TPS for this generous grant,” said Rolando Ramirez, Superintendent of Schools. “The cameras will not only help in documenting important events but will also contribute to a safer, more respectful atmosphere where everyone can focus on learning and growth.”

The new cameras are expected to be deployed across Southside ISD’s campuses in the coming weeks, marking a significant step forward in the district’s commitment to student safety and well-being.
