On Thursday, November 7th, the Southside FFA competed in the Alamo District Leadership Development Events (LDEs) at James Madison High School. To advance to the Area level, individuals or teams must place in the top two of their respective events. The Alamo District is widely regarded as one of the most competitive districts in Area VII, which is known for being the toughest Area in Texas FFA. Two years ago, Melany Avila made history by becoming the first individual or team from Southside FFA in many years (to the best of our knowledge) to advance beyond the District level. This year, we are excited to announce that Southside FFA will be advancing in two different contests to the Area VII competition! – The Radio Broadcasting team claimed **1st place** out of 10 teams. Team members include: Seniors Izabella Kibiger, Cole Matheny, and Zachary Ramos. – The Public Relations team earned **2nd place** after a fierce competition. Team members include: Seniors Denyel Dominguez, Melany Avila, Izabella Kibiger, and Cole Matheny. In addition, Melany Avila came within a hair’s breadth of advancing in the Spanish Creed Speaking contest, finishing an impressive **3rd place**. Both teams will move on to represent Southside FFA at the Area VII contest, which will be held at Schreiner University on November 20th.
