Southside ISD walked together to show their Southside pride and come together as a community for the annual Lighting of the S event and parade. More than 4,000 people cheered and waved from the stands, welcoming each club, organization, community partner, and campus as they made their way down the SHS Stadium track.
The district gathered at the Southside Stadium on Sept. 11th, several first responders from the area were represented and helped to kick off the event on this Patriot’s Day. Many people were sporting their Southside gear displaying their Cardinal Pride. There was even a special guest from HEB, Monica Garza from Public Affairs, who came down and presented the district with a $2,500 gift card.
As the more than 10-foot tall Southside ‘S’ was lit up behind SHS seniors, they took one last lap around the track, signifying their last year of high school before they graduate in May 2025.
To promote district pride and spirit this annual event is held before the big homecoming game, on Sept. 13th, where the Cardinals are set to play against Laredo Cigarroa.
