Principal Lebon James has a name that sounds like a superstar athlete, and like the NBA star, Lebron, he is a champion. But Lebon James is a champion of students and educators. He has been a cornerstone of the Southside ISD community, providing unwavering support to both students and staff at Gallardo Elementary. This is a bittersweet time for Cardinal Nation. He will be departing and heading to another chapter in his educational career this month.

Mr. James exemplifies dedication and commitment. He is consistently the first to arrive at lunch duty, the last to leave campus, and always goes above and beyond in his responsibilities. “I see him at cafeteria duty, and he’s the first one there, engaging with the kids and having meaningful conversations,” says Carla Escamilla, Academic Dean at Gallardo Elementary. “He knows every student’s name and has established a trusting relationship with both students and staff, which is truly remarkable.”

According to colleagues here at Southside ISD, principals like Mr. James are rare. Overseeing more than 600 students and staff each year while handling tasks ranging from supporting the yearbook club to updating the campus website and balancing a budget, he shows remarkable dedication to Gallardo’s success. Since his arrival as the principal, the former academic dean at Matthey Middle School has improved the academic success of his campus and increased attendance. This accomplishment is no small feat.

“Although this transition is challenging, I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” said Mr. James. “It has been an honor to work with such extraordinary scholars.” While his departure saddens us, Cardinal Nation is deeply grateful for his invaluable contributions and his positive impact during his time here.
