The Southside ISD held a poetry contest at all eight campuses to celebrate School Board Appreciation Month. The theme of this year’s statewide honor was “Foward Together.” However, at Southside ISD, we took it one step further. During a meeting honoring our board, eight students from each campus dressed in racing gear to highlight the theme, “Forward Together:  Racing to becoming an A-rated school district.” Then, our students read the winning poem written by Freedom Elementary School 5th grade student Riley Pina.

FORWARD TOGETHER

Forward together

We can do better.

It’s going to be now or never

that we thank you together.

Knowing that we can rise

we can go high.

Scores are now better

we can rise together.

It’s now or never

that we can do better.

This chance you gave us

will last forever.

Thank you for helping

now we can learn better.

The more we learn

the higher we get.

We thank the board

we know this might now last forever

but we will always stick together.

-Rylee Pina, 5th Grade, Freedom Elementary
