A Texas Education Agency audit by the Texas School Safety Center found Southside ISD in excellent compliance with school safety protocols. “I want parents to feel confident that the safety and security measures that we have in place are very effective,” said Southside ISD Police Chief Don Tijerina. The State of Texas mandated the school safety audits following the May 24th massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. It happened after an 18-year gunman armed with an AR-15 assault rifle killed 19 children and two teachers. The independent auditor reported he was impressed with the security measures in place. He was stopped upon entering the campus, needed identification, and all internal and external doors were locked. “We were one of the first groups to be audited. It proves what I believe that we have a very safe and secure environment,” the police chief said. Click here to read the full audit report.
