San Antonio City Council honors Southside ISD for Academic Performance

City Council Chambers

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, District Three Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran and the City Council honored Southside ISD and its students on Thursday, September 29 at City Council Chambers. It was a first for the school district. Councilwoman Viagran invited Superintendent Mr. Rolando Ramirez and Southside High School students for the distinction after the Texas Education Agency revealed in August that Southside ISD is now among San Antonio’s top five school districts. Councilwoman Viagran, who represents the Southside community, also recognized the Southside High School state champion color guard, state champion criminal justice winner Jasmine Watkins, and National Spanish Spelling Bee 3rd place winner America Agis. The high school’s Conjunto Cardenales were invited to play a song. Superintendent Ramirez thanked the Council for its accolades and said, “We hope you invite us back again when we become an A-rated school district.” Councilwoman Viagran beamed with pride as she got up to greet the district’s administration and students. “Thank you so much,” she said. “You guys did great!”
