Greenhouses are Bringing Learning to Life at Southside ISD

Students plant seeds with Superintendent Rolando Ramirez while Dr. Samuel Ebong assists.

Southside ISD’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) initiative is expanding. Workers are building a greenhouse at each of the District’s eight campuses. STEAM Coordinator Dr. Samuel Ebong says the greenhouses are an extension of the District’s initiatives where students can apply what they’ve learned in the classroom and gain real-world field experience. Students will be able to harvest fruits and vegetables. The Child Nutrition Department will then cook any vegetables harvested so that students can taste the fruit of their labor. The first greenhouse was dedicated in memory of the late Matthey Middle School teacher Mr. Daryl Marino.
