Quiz Show: Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader? Southside ISD 5th Grader Beats College Students

Gallardo Elementary 5th grade students Frida Agis, Jorge Moncayo, Fabian Martinez, Cristian Rodriguez, and Alan Ellison at Texas A&M-University San Antonio.

A team of students from Southside ISD competed against students from other San Antonio-area school districts and from Texas A&M University-San Antonio. In the end, Gallardo Elementary School fifth grade student Fabian Martinez emerged as the champion. Students participated in a quiz show titled, “Are you smarter than a 5th grader?” University and elementary students were asked questions such as:

  • “Where were fireworks invented?”
  • “What type of animal can go in land and water?”
  • “How many legs does an arachnid have?”
  • “What type of word is:  truthfully?”

For the winning the championship, Martinez won a Nintendo Switch console.
