700 First Grade Students see Santa Claus and receive gifts

Superintendent Mr. Rolando Ramirez ushers students to see Santa Claus at the Southside High School auditorium.

Throughout the years, various organizations have stepped up to assist Southside ISD students at Christmas. However, the vision of Superintendent Mr. Rolando Ramirez was on full display as first grade students from Heritage Elementary, Gallardo Elementary, Pearce Elementary, and Freedom Elementary came to the Southside High School auditorium to see a special guest.

“I’ve been excited for the past two days,” a first grade girl from Pearce Elementary said.

The event began with a video a reindeer flying through the sky while pulling a sled. Then, Superintendent Ramirez asked the students, “Do you know we have someone special here just to see you?” Students resoundingly replied, “Santa Claus!”

One by one, students came up to the stage to see Santa and receive a gift of school supplies.

Parents rushed to the stage to capture the exciting moment.

The students’ gifts were made possible by a generous donation from philanthropists Glenn and Kym Rapier Verette and the Kym’s Angels Foundation.

As students prepared to leave, they surrounded Santa Claus asking him, “What’s my name?” One child was hoping to receive a specific toy.

Santa Claus did say first grade students at Southside ISD have done very well this year and he looks forward to seeing them again.

Before he returns to the North Pole, Santa Claus will visit the 800 students at Menchaca Early Childhood Center on Wednesday, December 15.
