Heritage Elementary art teacher Ms. Cheryl Kindred poses with District shirt art contest winner Jasmine Herrera; a 4th grade student at the school.

Heritage Elementary School 4th grade student, Jasmine Herrera, beat out hundreds of Southside ISD students in the student shirt art contest. Jasmine’s artwork incorporates the District’s slogan, “Dream, Believe, and Succeed,” showcasing a cardinal sitting on a branch with a blue sky. Heritage Elementary Principal Ms. Elise Puente informed Jasmine she won and said, “Jasmine immediately cupped both hands over her mouth in disbelief and sheer joy.” `

The 4th grader is a student in Ms. Laura Hrncir’s class. The entire Heritage Elementary student body participated in the art contest led by art teacher Ms. Cheryl Kindred.

A student committee chaired by Southside High School sophomore Scottie Montemayor selected the three finalists including Jasmine Herrera, Kaydene Tendal of Gallardo Elementary, and Sandy Franco from Heritage Elementary School. The Southside ISD Board of Managers selected Jasmine Herrera’s artwork during the October 20th board meeting. Her artwork concept will be placed on a tee-shirt for all Southside ISD students in August 2022.
