Students today at Southside ISD paid tribute to the 2,977 victims of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. The ceremony at Heritage Elementary included a fly-in from the San Antonio Police Department’s Eagle One helicopter team, SAPD patrol officers, firefighters from the Bexar County Emergency Services District 2, and the Southside ISD Police Department.
About 300 students waived American flags, sang a patriotic song, and held a moment of silence to honor the victims from the attack.
Each year, Heritage Elementary hosts the event as part of Texas’ First Responders Day. More than 400 firefighters and police officers died following the terrorist attacks.
