More than $20K in Innovation Grants Awarded to Southside Teachers

Jennifer Barrow, Gallardo art teacher, wins grant.

(San Antonio, TX) –  “Oh my God! I can’t believe it!.”  These were some of the words the “prize patrol” heard Friday, May 28, 2021, as a crew of Southside ISD and SISD Education Foundation representatives traveled all over the district, surprising 2021 Innovation Grant winners. Prizes ranged from $933 to nearly $6000.  This year the SISD Education Foundation was able to award seven grant winners despite COVID 19 challenges. Along with other small fundraisers like the United Way employee contributions and grants, the Foundation traditionally holds two big events to raise money for scholarships and grants.  In 2020 both events were canceled. However, several generous donors helped, and in March 2021, a golf tournament generated a record-breaking 52K in gross revenue, netting just more than $43K.  The Foundation Board of Directors could not be more grateful for all who helped keep the non-profit afloat, allowing them to honor their commitment to giving out $20K in grants in 2021.
