District honors University of the Incarnate Word Nursing Professor

Superintendent Mr. Rolando Ramirez presents an art glass trophy to UIW nursing professor Dr. Linda Hook.

On Friday, April 30, Superintendent Mr. Rolando Ramirez honored University of the Incarnate Word professor Dr. Linda Hook for her exceptional work in vaccinating children and their parents. As a tribute, the Southside High School mariachi group serenaded her as a show of great gratitude for her efforts. For more than a decade, the UIW nursing professor has vaccinated thousands of Southside ISD’s school children. Then, in January, Dr. Hook contacted the District proposing an urgent plan to vaccinate 500 residents with the COVID vaccine. By late March, the plan grew to offer 1,000 doses of the COVID vaccine.  After meticulous planning, Southside ISD hosted the UIW mass vaccination clinic held Saturday, April 10, 2021. The event went off seamlessly and because of Dr. Hook, hundreds of people are now protected against this deadly disease.
