Southside ISD grandparents raising grandchildren became a central feature in the rebranding of Texas Vista Medical Center, formerly known as Southwest General Hospital, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. A busload of 13 grandparents traveled to the hospital for the celebration. On arriving, the grandparents were treated to a VIP welcome by Texas Vista Medical Center doctors, nurses, and administrators. Grandparents Frances Graves, Isabel Gutierrez, and Albert Gutierrez told the crowd how enthused they were to be there and to be receiving their first dose of the COVID vaccine. Texas Vista Medical Center is investing millions of dollars into the facility and making an authentic effort to reach into the community. Southside ISD Superintendent Mr. Rolando Ramirez accompanied the grandparents on the bus.
