Chef Angel Machado has won multiple culinary awards and has appeared in multiple TV and newspaper interviews. In 2018 The Texas Chef Association named Southside High School Chef Instructor Angel Machado as the 2018 Educator of the Year. Chef Machado & his students most recently participated in The Kitchen Campus Competition with premier Mexican cuisine Chef Johnny Hernandez and placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Chef Machado & his students take competition very seriously and participate in a variety of district and community-based competitions. They also enjoy preparing and serving Thanksgiving meals to about 350 needy families in San Antonio’s South Side every year.

Senior Brandon Ruiz-Araiza set himself apart as a member of the CTE program by completing both the electrical and welding programs.  Brandon participated in the Southside High School Construction Technology/Welding advisory committee. Brandon’s hard work and dedication to the CTE program made an Impression on local industry leaders.  Through the coordination of this advisory committee, Brandon was offered a paid internship with Central Electric Contractors Engineer for the duration of his senior year.  This internship can lead to a full-time position after graduation.  There is no doubt that Brandon will continue on his path to a successful career in the electrical field.
