Cardinal Spotlight Week of October 26: Southside High School

Mrs. Anna Bustamante is a Southside High School graduate and is the longest-serving employee in the district, currently in her 38th year as a teacher with Southside ISD. She currently teaches Guitar and directs our award-winning Mariachi and Conjunto programs. Her Mariachi and Conjunto members compete and perform regularly in state and local contests and festivals and have been featured numerous times on local television. Mrs. Bustamante is a proud Cardinal and advocate for Southside and serves the community as a board member for the Alamo Community College District.

Senior, Juan Medina, has been in the Southside High School Law, Public Safety & Security Program since his freshman year. Juan has always been a leader in the classroom and in the Police Explorer Post 8201, earning the rank of Corporal his freshman year. Juan also earned his training and certificate for the Community Emergency Response Team Training (CERT) and has remained an intricate part of the Law Program each and every year. Juan advanced in rank to Sergeant his Sophomore and Junior year. This year with the challenges of COVID, Juan has managed to maintain his leadership skills and is a candidate for Police Explorer Chief. Juan works hard maintaining his academics and his attendance. Even during remote learning, Juan has remained committed and continues to go above and beyond expectations. Juan has been in the SHS marching band since his freshman year as well. Juan volunteers to serve the Southside ISD Community any time there is an opportunity; Wellness Fairs, Varsity Football Games, the Food Bank, and at TxDOT. Juan earned Student of Month his Junior year and recently earned Employee of the Month at his place of employment. Keep Shining Bright Juan & making us proud!
