Students at Southside ISD’s Heritage Elementary School are honoring Americans killed during the 2001 September 11 terrorist attacks that shocked the nation. During a virtual presentation, students will honor the memory of the 2,977 people killed. It happened after terrorists hijacked four airliners and crashed them into the World Trade Centers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. In a sign of the times, students will honor first responders which usually included police officers and firefighters. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students will also honor health care workers who are on the front lines of the current national emegency that has claimed more than 192,000 American lives.
