(San Antonio, TX) – Southside ISD had its most unique convocation ever. The entire forty-five-minute event was virtual and online for the entire district. Nearly 800 employees were logged in at the same time Wednesday morning at 8:30 am.
Superintendent Roland Ramirez has been on the job for just more than two months. He delivered his inspiring yet realistic speech with a “Google Meets” style in his office and behind his desk. “I am not going to lie, this will be a challenging year, ” he said. But, Ramirez did try to keep it light with funny videos and a few surprise drawings.
The host of the show, Brandon Robinson, a convocation emcee veteran, nearly stole the show with an opening video that literally took his breath away. The skit of Robinson literally running through the entire district to get to convocation and running past each school was touching and another reminder that so many of us have not been able to get inside of those buildings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The theme of the show and the school year is WE ARE ONE. It has been said to succeed in life, one can not do it alone. The success of Southside ISD will be achieved with teamwork and hard work, Ramirez reminded us. WE ARE ONE, TOGETHER.
