TXDoT to add rumble strips in front of SHS

The Texas Department of Transportation is planning on adding this summer additional traffic safety devices in front of Southside High School. The action comes after the Southside ISD leadership appealed to TXDoT following safety concerns. The area has a history of high school students running across the major highway to go to the Dollar General Store. Now, TXDoT plans to install rumble strips to alert drivers in the northbound lanes of U.S. 281. “We use rumble strips in areas where we have safety issues at signals and stop signs,” said TXDoT engineer Dale Picha.

TXDoT also says an education campaign with Southside High School students could also change and benefit student safety.
