Dear Southside Cardinals,
As we come to the end of an unprecedented academic school year I want to assure you that each of us here at the high school have been working to ensure education continues. There are still more changes and challenges to come.
Stay Strong. In nature, Cardinals are some of the most resilient of species. They overcome and survive the strongest winds and storms, only to come out soaring as a beacon of hope and strength. The Cardinal is a testament to the strength of this great school and each of you, great students. That being said, you can expect that we will be making announcements soon about summer school options, continued online instruction and details about the start of the school year for 2020-2021.
Please go to http://southsideisd.org/shs/ for the latest information.
We continue to meet with and take direction from the state and public health experts. Since the outbreak of COVID 19 our lives have ALL changed. School will likely never be the same. Nevertheless, your education can still be one of the greatest experiences and gifts of your life. It will be different; it is up to you to keep the attitude and spirit of a strong Cardinal Nation intact.
As for our most special Seniors, the Class of 2020, all over the world people are coming together to honor graduates and work to make sure the graduate’s experience is special, as it is a once in a lifetime experience.
Regarding graduation, officially, the May 21nd graduation has been postponed and altered. There will be a Graduate ONLY virtual hybrid graduation ceremony (see below). In addition, pursuant to guidelines and
recommendations, the district is working to secure a date and approval for an in-person graduation ceremony in July.
Southside HS Graduate Only Virtual Hybrid Ceremony Details:
Seniors who have met all the requirements for graduation will be contacted in the next few days with a date and time to show up for a video shoot. Each student will receive special instructions for this event. Each graduate will be videotaped walking the stage. A video crew will compile and edit all the graduates walking the stage along with the speeches from the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian. This virtual graduation ceremony will be released in June. The release date will be heavily promoted prior to airing the video.
We want to make sure to give you all more than enough time to plan. We will air the ceremony on the SISD website and the SISD Facebook page in June.
Thank you all for your strength and courage,
Demetria Sance
Southside HS Principal
