Superintendent Eads Letter to the Community August 15 2019
August 15, 2019
Dear Cardinal Family,
Thank you for supporting Southside during a tough transitional period. Now, as we prepare for our future, I believe the 2019-2020 school year will be a landmark year for our students, staff, and community. When I joined the Southside ISD team in May 2016, I knew we had some challenges ahead of us. Immediate needs included positioning SISD for our future growth and restructuring departments to better serve our students. I am confident that the proper systems and people are now in place to move SISD in the right direction. Nevertheless, I want to thank you for getting through it all.
We started last year by opening our new Menchaca Early Childhood Center amid continued construction of the campus. The opening of Menchaca allowed us to move our fifth grade students back to the elementary campuses. Losoya Intermediate transitioned to a stand-alone sixth grade campus last year and has this year transitioned to be a middle school campus, serving students in grades sixth through eighth. During all of this restructuring, every campus had on-going 2017 bond construction projects. These projects were solutions so that we could create the necessary spaces, update facilities, and more. All of this transition was necessary to prepare us to start the new era of Southside ISD.
For it to be a successful year it is important to remember that every team member is a teacher. From the moment our students leave their home to the moment they step on or off the bus, everyone at Southside ISD is a teacher. From the child nutrition staff, to the receptionists, to the grounds and maintenance workers, we are all teachers. When people ask me how many children I have I always say 6003. All the Southside children and my three biological children. They are OUR children. We are all responsible and accountable for their success.
As teachers, we will incorporate our Core Values: Service. Accountability. Integrity. Loyalty. We will SAIL! Service to others will keep us humble and lift our Cardinal Spirits. Accountability, we are all accountable to each other and the quality and quantity of service we provide for our most precious clients, the students. Integrity is not just doing the right thing when no one is looking, but having the honor and honesty to be true to your commitments; finish what you started. Finally, be loyal, to our students, to yourself and in doing so your loyalty to Southside ISD’s family will soar. We are a “Soaring to Excellence” school district and this is the beginning of a new era.
Mark E. Eads,
Proud Superintendent of Southside ISD
