The Texas Action for Healthy Kids honored Southside ISD police officer Robert Ferdin with its Healthy Schools Hero Award on Fri., Feb. 1, 2019 at ESC 20. Officer Ferdin leads Losoya Middle School’s KIPC program; Kids Influencing Positive Change. He received the award for outstanding commitment to improving the nutrition and physical environment for Texas kids. Officer Ferdin and the KIPC Kids are planting a community garden this week at Losoya Middle School. It will become a district-wide garden involving Southside High School and Pearce Elementary. Additionally, KIPC students are receiving guidance from the City of San Antonio Metro Health and Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Last year, Officer Ferdin received a $2500 grant from the Mayor’s Fitness Council as part of the Student Ambassador Program.
