Each year our talented Southside ISD students compete for the title of the annual Patriotic Art Contest. The district winner’s image becomes the official Fiesta medal for SISD and over the last the years these medals have become “hot commodities.”
This is an assignment that aligns with the celebration of Freedom week in which SISD pays tribute to historical figures or events that have made a difference in our lives. The students also study the US Constitution, Texas history along with a number of other important topics.
Four years ago SISD encouraged the children to become a bit more interactive while they studied these historic topics by launching the art contest. Each of the winning images from each campus will be featured in the SISD newsletter and once again the overall district winner becomes the Southside ISD Fiesta Medal. The district winner was judged anonymously by the SISD Board of Managers and the Superintendent.
The First Place title goes to Clarissa Reyes from SHS. Her acrylic drawing of Folklorico dances and a pepper with maracas is very vibrant and festive. Congratulations!
