Southside ISD Backpacks Blue Jeans Drive

1_unnamedFirst day of school is creeping up, August 22, 2016!!! Southside ISD is excited to announce a Backpack and Blue Jeans drive for our nearly 6000 students. Southside will be opening up the Cardinal Cares Closet for the 2016-17 school year. This is the first time the district’s children will have a dedicated program to all students throughout the entire school year to help with any clothing needs.

The “no questions asked” program will be available to students who are in visual need of clothing or who are experiencing a crisis that meet certain criteria. The closet will be outfitted with clothes, shoes, winter apparel and accessories along with basic hygiene items to help any of our struggling cardinals through out the school year.

At this time we are working on outfitting the closet with as many clothes as possible for the start of school, which is why we are reaching out for everyone to help with the donation of new or gently used items. We are also asking the public to drop off new backpacks and blue jeans on or before Aug. 19th. SISD has an 89% economically disadvantaged community and we service a majority rural area. We will continues to collect passed the 19th, but are trying to give out as much as we can before the start of school. Clothing and monetary donations are always welcome at SISD Central office or Monday and Wednesdays 3pm -6pm at the Cardinal Closet located in a portable next to Southside HS (19190 US Highway 281, SATX 78221).
