Southside ISD Teacher Wins $4000 in BOOKS

Southside High School teacher, Rudy Ramirez, was awarded $4000 in books from Barnes and Noble. The book giant Barnes and Noble held a nationwide contest for Educator Appreciation Week. Ramirez was awarded the books at a special presentation on June 1, 2016 at the high school surrounded by friends, colleagues and students. Ramirez was chosen at the regional level out of 600 Barnes and Noble stores and thousands of PreK-12th grade teachers. Applicants were given the option to write a sentence about why they choose to be a teacher on their entry card. Ramirez says, “Teaching is my passion because I like an adventure and teaching history is quite an adventure.”  Dorling Kindersley (DK) Publishing sponsored this contest with a substantial donation of DK books. Debra Castanon and Maggie Doten, Barnes and Noble representatives,  presented the award to Mr. Ramirez. He has donated the majority of his winnings to Southside school libraries! Students enjoy!!!
