[soliloquy id=”1092″]The National Education Association and the National Council of La Raza joined together at the Southside ISD to launch the nation’s newest innovative program to get parents involved in schools.
The program is called Padres Comprometidos, or Committed Parents, and is a five-week program covering topics such as discussing the relationship between higher education and higher earnings, learning the chain of command in schools, and understanding how funding provisions impact children’s education.
Research shows that when parents are involved in their children’s education, children perform better at school and throughout life.
In mid-February, the NCLR and the NEA honored parents Mery Cortez, Deb Rodriguez, and Jessica Johnson with a ceremony for completing the intense program.
The graduates say the program, begun at Pearce Primary, has given them a better understanding of how the school district and campus operate. But more than that, they say, it’s helping them support their children in school.
