The Varsity boys football team travelled to Laredo last Friday night, looking for their first 29-5A district victory of the season. Unfortunately the host Laredo Nixon Mustangs and their Wing-T offense weren’t so accommodating. The Mustangs used their running attack to jump out to an early 13-0 first half lead, but Senior RB Nathan Rosokoff’s 9 yard touchdown run cut the Mustang lead to 13-6 going into halftime. After the break, Nixon struck quickly to increase their lead to 19-6. That lead eventually grew to 31-6 following a pair of Cardinal turnovers. The never-say-die Cardinals however refused to go away quietly as Junior RB Matt Collier was able to punch in two 4th quarter touchdowns runs, one of which was set up by a blocked punt by Junior Justin Alexander. Unfortunately, time ran out on the Cardinal comeback and Nixon came away with the 31-19 victory. The Red Storm will host the visiting Somerset Bulldogs with their unbeaten 2-0 district record, this Friday night at Southside Stadium. Let’s Go Cardinals!!!
