SISD Spanish Spelling era E-X-C-E-L-E-N-T-E!

Southside ISD’s Spanish Spelling be was excelente, excellent!

Congrats to all who participated in the first ever SISD Spanish Spelling Bee.  Dozens of Southside Cardinals competed for the chance to eventually go to the national bee sponsored by Spanish language television network Univision. The students were already featured on local news stations Fox 29 and WOAI News 4. Superintendent Mark E. Eads says this is a perfect example of how to get students engaged in learning a second language.  The event was facilitated by Mrs. Adriana Bermea, the district’s ESL Coordinator. She says she hopes these kind of events will at least bring about awareness to the importance of  bilingual and ESL programs at Southside ISD and at the very most make learning fun. The competition was fierce. After more than two hours of spelling in Spanish here are the winners who prevailed:
Elementary Winner: Edgar Pena
Elementary School : Losoya Intermediate
ES Grade Level: 5th grade

Middle School Winner: Luis Hurtado
Middle School: Matthey Middle School
MS Grade Level: 7th grade

High School Winner: Alejandra Pena
High School: Southside High School
HS Grade Level: 12th grade

Each winner will be representing SISD in their respective group at Region 20 on Feb 4th.   Good luck !
