Letter from Superintendent: Message About Safety and Clown Threats

Dear Cardinal Families,

You may have been reading or seeing stories in the news about a number of clown posts made on social media similar to the “creepy clown” incidents that have occurred recently at Comal ISD, NISD, across the state and the nation. Law enforcement agencies have determined these clown posts are a social media hoax and that there were no credible threats in these incidents.

However, the SISD Police Department and staff will remain diligent and monitor social media as a precaution, take appropriate action. In some cases criminal charges have been necessary and filed against those making the posts. Currently Southside ISD has not received any “clown” related threats. Please know that any attempts to copy these threats will result in disciplinary actions and any student or person who attempts to dress as a clown could be sent home.

These unfortunate incidents are an example of the power of social media and how that power is not always used in a good way and instead can create fear and uncertainty. Please take this opportunity to discuss with your children the value of social media, as well as the dangers of misusing it.

Please know that Southside ISD campuses are safe and that educating our children is our highest priority. As always, if you have any concerns or wish to speak to someone, contact your school principal.

God Bless,

Mark E. Eads
